Why The College Funding Coach?

Dung comes from a refugee family and a humble background. She was only 9 when her father passed away unexpectedly. As the second eldest, her sense of duty and responsibility to help the family financially pushed her to start working in the high school cafeteria at age 15. Eventually, she and her older sister were able to purchase a house for the family. In her senior year in high school, she worked two jobs while playing sports and maintaining a 3.5 GPA. After graduating, Ms. Vu continued working to help pay the mortgage and household expenses while putting herself through college with grants and scholarships.

She deeply understands the challenges and nuances of paying for college and applying for FAFSA, grants, and scholarships. Each family’s financial situation is unique, and each college’s expectations differ. As a financial advisor, Ms. Vu strives to help her clients navigate the complexity of paying for college while not sacrificing the family’s retirement and other goals.

A Little More About Dung

Career Background: Dung Vu has over 22 years of industry experience and holds a CFBS (Certified Family Business Specialist) designation.

Personally understanding the impact of having a family’s breadwinner pass away prematurely, she strives to help others protect their assets and build wealth while planning for their future.

Preparing for that next step in life isn’t always easy. Her experience, professionalism, and access to various products/services help her meet her client’s financial goals, estate strategies, and insurance needs. Whether your goals include preparing for milestone life events like college or retirement or simply looking for investments, life insurance, disability income, or long-term care insurance protection, she delivers a new level of attention, insight, and capability.

Accomplishments: For her commitment to the community, Dung received the 2015 Spirit of Volunteerism Award for exceptional service! In addition, she was recognized as an Honorable Mention for the Invest in Others Award in 2016 and 2017.

Community Involvement: Ms. Vu is active with her alma mater and community. She previously served as president of Cal State University, Fullerton’s Alumni Association, the University’s Planned Giving Council, and the 35/Thirty-five Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Business & Economics. She also volunteered as a Financial Literacy Education Presenter for the Consumer Credit Counseling of Orange County and the FPA of Orange County.

Ms. Vu currently serves as a Facilitator for the CSUF Center for Family Business Asian American Affinity Group. She is on active call-out status with her city’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). She also volunteers in the community with United Way, the LA Times Book Festival, and the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce (VACOC).

Personal: Ms. Vu grew up in Southern California and enjoys its reputation as one of America’s melting pots with a rich history of ethnic culture and diversity. In addition to spending time with friends and family, Dung is a foodie and dabbles in photography. She also enjoys reading and outdoor activities.

Education: California State University, Fullerton, Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Double concentration in Finance with a focus on Financial Planning and Management. Minor in Communication.
